Rush rainout prompts lawsuit against the band and promoter Live Nation

Angered over a rain-soaked cancellation, Christopher Langone, a self-proclaimed “lifelong fan” of the rock band Rush, has filed a class-action lawsuit against the band’s three members and Live Nation over a canceled July 7 concert at Chicago’s Charter One Pavilion.

According to Langone, the concert, which while held in an open air pavilion, was billed as a rain or shine event, meaning the band should have played despite the ever present rain storms in the area.  Full Story…

Large Southwest concert promoter blasts Ticketmaster / Live Nation consent decree

Concert promoter Jack Orbin, founder and president of Stone City Attractions, this week criticized the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) consent decree allowing the Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger, stressing that the deal will severely damage the live entertainment industry.

In documents filed with the DOJ and written by attorney David Balto, a former Federal Trade Commission executive, on behalf of Orbin, the promoter said he believes that nothing in the merger will stem the rising tide of concert ticket prices; the average concert ticket price nearly tripled between 1996 and 2009.  Full Story…
